I believe this project will be of benefit to many children and youth living with autism and physical challenges In Coquitlam and the Tri-Cities area. I have found that caregivers of these children often express concern about limited opportunities for physical activity and social interaction In a truly inclusive environment.
There is a lack of integration In the delivery of these services outside tertiary hospitals and their affiliates. The idea of developing an integrated service plan which includes the innovative ESMT program is exciting and has the potential to improve the care and quality of life for the child as well as for their family. In my opinion, the project goal of expanding this program locally and then to other communities in British Columbia will enhance the lives of special needs children throughout our province.
